Meet the Founder & CEO

MEET THE FOUNDER & CEO

Hi, I'm Shawndell

Your mission. Your financial future. Both matter.

I believe in the brilliance of survivors, advocates, and programs. For more than 28 years, I have worked to make systems better, easier, and more supportive for those who lead this movement. I created Dawson Visionary Enterprises and the Advocates Paying Advocates Marketplace to help advocates organize what is already in their heart and mind.

I started as an advocate in rural Appalachian Ohio, finding my voice while earning $4.25 an hour. While providing meaningful support to survivors, I was also exploring options for more flexibility to sustain myself as a college student. I know the "Advocate’s Hustle" because I have lived it.

Since then, I have navigated the complexities of this movement alongside you. My career grew from the front lines to directing $1 billion+ in federal investments for survivor services. I have partnered with over 15 federal agencies to strengthen systems and have directly increased resources for rural programs, sexual assault services, and culturally specific, Indigenous, and LGBTQ survivors. I know the depth of this work because I have been in the room helping to build its future.

  • 28+ Years of Leadership: From earning minimum wage as a rural advocate to serving as a Senior Federal Executive directing national strategy.

  • Managed $1 Billion+ in Federal Investments: Overseeing grants that serve 1.3 million survivors annually across the United States.

  • National Policy Leadership: Served as a leading co-chair for the first U.S. National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence.

  • Economic Empowerment Pioneer: Helped develop and pilot the national education and job training fund that has provided direct financial assistance to hundreds of survivors helping them keep jobs, access job training, get professional licenses, and access important support for themselves and their children.

  • Supported Significant Funding Growth: Launched a $198 million national sexual assault services program and successfully justified a $95 million appropriations increase for victim services for Congress.

  • Expanded Culturally Specific Resources: Launched a $49.5 million program dedicated to culturally specific domestic violence and sexual assault services.

  • Strategic Partnership Builder: Advised over 15 federal agencies on strategies to fund public-private partnerships that support nurses, doctors, child welfare, head start programs, child support agencies and housing programs in partnering with domestic violence, sexual assault, tribal, and culturally specific programs.

  • Committed to advancing unrestricted income and economic empowerment for advocates, survivors, and programs.
